TISS Admission Process  : Overview

Before we talk about the TISS Admission process it is important to know about The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) was established in 1936 as the Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work. In 1944, it was renamed as the Tata Institute of Social Sciences. In the year 1964 TISS was declared Deemed to be a University by University Grants Commission Act (UGC), 1956.

TISS has 21 schools under its patronage and 45 centres learning in all at four of its campuses located in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Tuljapur and Guwahati. TISS offers MA programs in a variety of areas from Public Health to criminology and justice , Human Resource and Labour Management, Disaster Management etc.

TISSNET Exam 2022 – Admission process

Stage 1: TISS-NET (TISS National Entrance Test) – TISS-NET is a common screening test for all Masters Programmes across all the campuses and centres. TISS-NET is aimed at shortlisting candidates for Stage 2 based on differential cut-offs for different programmes depending on the number of seats, number of applicants and the scores secured by the candidates.

Stage 2:  PIT / PI (Pre-Interview Test and Personal Interview) – PIT/PI are programme specific and might have variations across different programmes. Some of the programmes have Group Discussions (GD) or Aptitude Test (AT) as part of PIT. The details of programme specific components are provided against each of the programmes.

THE SCORES FOR PIT AND PI WILL BE IN AGGREGATED IN THE RATIO 70:30 FOR FINAL SELECTION. In the case of candidates applying for (i) MA HRM&LR and (ii) MA ODCL the scores for TISS-MAT, PIT and PI will be aggregated in the ratio 30:40:30.

Merit List preparation:

1.   Programme wise Open (Unreserved) Merit List (OML) will be prepared on the basis of (i) the aggregate score as above and (ii) the candidate’s preference of programmes as given in the online application form. OML will be prepared without consideration of the category they have applied, thus providing opportunity for all candidates to get selected in the OML depending on their aggregate score.

2.   After considering all the candidates in OML, separate Category wise Merit List (CML) will be drawn for the number of seats reserved for each category as per the Government of India / University Grants Commission regulations on the matter.

TISS NET Exam Pattern

TISS-NET is a computer-based test with 100 objective type multiple choice questions (MCQ). Those with basic working knowledge of computer can take the test easily.

Candidates applying or single or multiple programmes will attend only one test and the TISS-NET Score will be valid for all the programmes applied for.

NO NEGATIVE MARKING applicable for TISS-NET for any programme. (However negative marking will be applicable for TISS-MAT administered to candidates applying for MA Human Resource Management & Labour Studies and MA Organisation Development, Change and Leadership).Medium of TISS-NET will be English.

Duration of the test – 2 pm to 3.40 pm (1 hour & 40 minutes)

TISS MAT

Candidates applying for MA (HRM&LR) and / or MA (ODCL) programmes, must appear for the TISS Management Aptitude Test (TISS-MAT) in addition to the TISS-NET Examination. The TISS Management Aptitude Test (MAT) is conducted immediately after the TISS-NET examination.

NEGATIVE MARKING: Each correct answer will fetch 1 mark and each wrong answer will result in 0.25 negative marks.

TISS-MAT Score will be considered along with the Stage 2 of the admission process and thus will be considered only for those who are shortlisted for Stage.

2. MAT Score will be aggregated with the score of PIT and PI in the following manner to arrive at the final score for selection.

TISS-MAT : 30%

Pre-Interview Test (PIT) : 40%

Personal Interview (PI) : 30%

PIT/PI

TISS shortlists candidates for the second round of selection (PIT and PI) based on the merit list of the online test . The institutes sends Interview call letters for the 2nd round (PIT/PI) round. The short-listed candidates receive call letters for the second round (PIT and PI) which is held in Mumbai, Tuljapur, Hyderabad and Guwahati campuses. The Pre-Interview Test consists of a written test / Goup Discussion conducted before the Personal Interview.
